Bloomington – U.S. Senators Joe Donnelly and Todd Young hosted United States Marine Corps Commandant and member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Robert Neller at Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center and Crane Army Ammunition Activity on Friday. General Neller received briefings on Crane’s innovative work in the areas of expeditionary warfare, electronic warfare, nuclear security, and ammunition logistics.
“I was proud to host the Commandant of the United States Marine Corps at Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center and Crane Army Ammunition Activity. General Neller was impressed by the skilled workforce at Crane and all they do for the Marine Corps, the Department of Defense, and our national security,” said Young. “The Commandant’s visit will help ensure that Crane and its workforce continue to play an essential role in supporting our warfighters for decades to come.”
Donnelly, who serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee said, “It was a privilege to host Marine Commandant General Neller at Crane. Crane is one of our nation’s most critical military laboratories, and I am pleased the Commandant could see firsthand the incredible work Hoosiers do every day at Crane to support our service members and protect our national security. I will continue working to ensure our military leaders take full advantage of these hardworking Hoosiers and help Crane grow its mission.”
The visit comes on the heels of Senate passage of its version of the Fiscal Year 2018 National Defense Authorization Act. The Senate-passed version includes a Senator Young amendment that would provide a boost to Crane. Senator Donnelly served as a cosponsor of the amendment. The Senate-passed NDAA also includes a Donnelly-led measure that would fully fund a new $24 million shipping and receiving facility at Crane Army Ammunition Activity.
In February, Senators Young and Donnelly invited General Neller to visit Crane to learn more about the facility and its workforce.
Congressman Bucshon joined Senator Young and Senator Donnelly in welcoming General Neller to Crane.
