GREENCASTLE, Ind. – U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) today presented the Congressional Badge of Bravery Award to Police Officer David Luke Brown at Greencastle City Hall. Senator Young was joined by Police Chief Tom Sutherlin, Mayor Bill Dory, and members of Putnam County law enforcement.

Officer David Luke Brown is receiving the award due to the bravery and selflessness shown during his time in service. In 2016, Officer Brown responded to a call when a suspect shot him in the chest and he returned fire. Officer Brown proceeded to treat the suspect’s wounds before attending to his own.

“Our law enforcement officers risk their lives every day to keep us safe, but Officer Brown’s actions that day were extraordinary,” said Senator Young.“His decision to treat the suspect’s wounds was not just an act of bravery, it was an act of humanity.”
