Senator Young Announces Internship Partnership between NSWC Crane and the United States Naval Academy

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) today announced a new internship partnership between Indiana’s Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane and the United States Naval Academy (USNA). Under the plan initiated by Senator Young and agreed to by Crane and the USNA, midshipmen will have the opportunity to conduct internships at NSWC Crane.

“I couldn’t be happier to connect NSWC Crane and the United States Naval Academy,” said Senator Young. “These internships will supplement the academic studies of midshipmen and help prepare them for service in the fleet—while augmenting Crane’s innovative support to our warfighters and our national security.”

“We are excited to have the opportunity to work collaboratively with the United States Naval Academy,” said NSWC Crane Commanding Officer, Captain Mark Oesterreich. “Having midshipmen at Crane will allow us to expose them to the many technical capabilities we’ve developed while also providing them with the opportunity to have a direct impact on the Fleet they will join upon graduation. We would like to thank Senator Young for his support in making this effort possible.”

“The Naval Academy takes pride in the internships we offer our midshipmen, and we look forward to expanding our program to include internships at NSWC Crane—where they will gain practical experience developing innovative technical solutions. We look forward to this partnership with Crane, and we appreciate Senator Young’s advocacy for Crane and the Naval Academy,” said United States Naval Academy Superintendent Vice Admiral Walter E. “Ted” Carter Jr.

In 1995, Senator Young graduated from USNA. Upon graduation, he accepted a commission in the U. S. Marine Corps and became an Intelligence Officer.

NSWC Crane, located in Crane, Indiana, is home to leading national experts on cyber security and hardware assurance and provides critical support for our nation’s special operators, electronic warfare missions, and strategic deterrent.
