Young Votes for Bipartisan Water Infrastructure Bill
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) today voted for the America’s Water Infrastructure Act, which contains several Indiana infrastructure priorities, including authorizing the Great Lakes Coastal Resiliency Study, streamlining the review process for state water infrastructure grants, and authorizing a grant program to help identify lead in drinking waters at school and day care centers. The legislation passed on a 99-1 vote.
“This bipartisan bill will help strengthen Indiana’s inland waterway infrastructure and protect the health of our communities, our people, and our vital waterbodies,” said Senator Young. “From helping to identify lead in drinking water at schools, to authorizing an important study of the Great Lakes system, the benefits of this bill are far reaching.”
Highlights of America’s Water Infrastructure Act:
- Authorizes a comprehensive assessment of the water resources needs of the Great Lakes systems through the Great Lakes Coastal Resiliency Study.
- Reauthorizes and streamlines the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) to allow states to expedite the review process and help rebuild our nation’s crumbling water infrastructure.
- Authorizes a grant program to provide assistance to identify lead in drinking water at school and day care centers.
- Supports America’s inland waterway system and maintains navigations routes for the free flow of goods.
- Ensures America’s inland and coastal ports are reliably dredged and maintained to enable commerce.
