PHOTOS: Young Meets with Director of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) met with Kelly McKeague, the Director of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), to discuss our nation’s efforts to bring America’s fallen servicemembers home. Senator Young’s meeting comes amid reports that North Korea may soon transfer the remains of hundreds of Americans from the Korean War. Earlier this month, Young co-led a letter to President Trump supporting efforts to recover and repatriate the remains of American servicemembers who are missing in action (MIA) from the Korean War, including 175 Hoosiers. 

Following the meeting, Senator Young said, “I appreciated the opportunity to meet with Director McKeague and to discuss ways I can further support efforts to bring our fallen heroes home. We must ensure that the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency has all of the resources and authorities it needs to expeditiously fulfill its sacred mission. As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I will do all I can to encourage other nations to help the United States find and return our servicemembers who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.”

Senator Young is a U.S. Naval Academy graduate who served in the Marine Corps and now serves on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The United States cannot account for almost 7,700 Americans from the Korean War. In their June 12 Joint Statement in Singapore, President Trump and Kim Jong Un said, “The United States and the DPRK commit to recovering POW/MIA remains, including the immediate repatriation of those already identified.”
