Senate Passes Bill to Rename St. Joseph VA Clinic in Honor of Late Rep. Jackie Walorski

WASHINGTON –– Today, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed legislation to rename the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Clinic in Mishawaka, Indiana the “Jackie Walorski VA Clinic.” The bill, supported by the entire Indiana House delegation, passed the House of Representatives last month and will now go to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

Indiana Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Mike Braun (R-Ind.) introduced an identical version of the bill in the Senate.

“Jackie was a good friend and committed public servant, and we miss her deeply. During her service, Jackie never lost sight of protecting our Hoosier veterans. Renaming the Mishawaka VA Clinic in Jackie’s honor is just one way her legacy will live on for years to come,” said Senator Young.

“Jackie Walorski dedicated her life to serving Hoosiers, and had a special passion for helping veterans and their families get the benefits they have earned. It is right that this VA Clinic be named in Jackie Walorski’s honor,” said Senator Braun.

On Wednesday, August 3, Rep. Walorski died in a tragic car accident while traveling in Indiana’s second district. Rep. Walorski served on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs during her congressional career, and she championed important reforms to improve the quality and accessibility of services for our nation’s military veterans and the lives of veteran constituents at home. Her tireless work on behalf of veterans included helping to secure the new Mishawaka VA clinic, which opened in 2017 to improve access to care for Hoosier veterans.
