Senator Young Statement on Mike Pompeo Committee Vote

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) voted in favor of Mike Pompeo for Secretary of State.  Senator Young issued the following statement regarding the vote:

“Mike Pompeo is smart and experienced, and I was proud to support his nomination tonight in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. As our nation confronts a complex and growing array of international challenges, I regret that tonight’s vote was divided along party lines, falling short of the bipartisan tradition of the committee. I am hopeful that the full Senate will recognize the urgency of this matter and move to quickly confirm Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State so that we don’t leave our nation’s top diplomatic post vacant at a time when effective diplomacy is so vital to our national security.”

Senator Young explained his support for Director Pompeo on Fox News and CNN earlier today.
