Young Applauds Bill Promoting Peaceful Resolution to the Tibet-China Dispute Becoming Law

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) celebrated the signing into law of S. 138, the Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet-China Dispute Act. Senator Young led the introduction of the legislation, along with Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Representatives Michael McCaul (R-TX-10) and Jim McGovern (D-MA-02).

“Our bipartisan bill will refresh U.S. policy towards Tibet and push for negotiations that advance freedom for the Tibetan people and a peaceful resolution to the Chinese Communist Party’s conflict with the Dalai Lama. This legislation becoming law further demonstrates America’s resolve that the CCP’s status quo – both in Tibet and elsewhere – is not acceptable. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate and with the Administration to ensure swift and effective implementation,” said Senator Young.

The Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet-China Dispute Act promotes dialogue between the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Dalai Lama toward a peaceful resolution of the long-standing dispute between Tibet and China. The legislation passed the Senate in June and the House of Representatives in April.
