Crane, Ind. – Today, U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.), U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), and U.S. Representative Larry Bucshon (IN-08) hosted Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer at Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane. Secretary Spencer visited Crane to see the installation first-hand and to hear directly from Hoosiers working there in support of our servicemembers and our nation’s security.
During the visit, Secretary Spencer took in-depth tours of NSWC Crane’s three mission areas – Expeditionary Warfare, Electronic Warfare and Strategic Missions – and saw firsthand the advanced technology and innovative solutions that NSWC Crane provides in support of the men and women of our Armed Forces. Spencer had the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the relevance of NSWC Crane’s missions to the National Defense Strategy, including specific briefings on the Trusted and Assured Microelectronics, Hypersonics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Airborne Electronic Attack capabilities that Crane provides directly to the fleet.
Secretary Spencer said about the work being done at Crane, “It is truly great to be here and see the work you are producing. You are harnessing technology and finding innovative solutions to help warfighters across our Navy-Marine Corps enterprise. You’re making our Navy stronger and you are helping us increase our capabilities across all domains, which is exactly what our nation needs.”
Young, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said, “It was an honor to help host the Secretary of Navy today at Crane, where Hoosiers provide vital and innovative support to our warfighters. I look forward to continuing my efforts to ensure Crane has the resources it needs to fulfill its important mission.”

Spencer at Crane today, so that he could see how critically important Crane is to our national security.
