Young, Hassan, Cantwell Resolution Establishing World Quantum Day Passes Senate

WASHINGTON – The United States Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution introduced by Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) to commemorate and support the goals of World Quantum Day, which is recognized annually on April 14th.

The resolution highlights the importance of the quantum mechanics that are part of the technologies used in everyday life, such as semiconductors, GPS systems, and MRI imaging. The U.S. has been a pioneer in revolutionary quantum technologies and this resolution recognizes that legacy.

“Quantum science is driving groundbreaking technological advancements and will play a crucial role in strengthening America’s competitive edge. To keep pace with this progress, it’s essential to equip our schools and students with the resources to explore quantum concepts from an early age and inspire them to join our expanding STEM workforce. The World Quantum Day initiative highlights the incredible strides we’ve already made in this field while underscoring the importance of preparing the next generation with the skills to carry that momentum forward,” said Senator Young.

“Quantum information science and technology play an increasingly vital role in our national security and our economy. That is why we must promote the training of the next generation of scientists and develop a workforce that is equipped to lead in this emerging field. World Quantum Day should serve as an important reminder of the need to investment more in STEM and quantum education, research, and development,” said Senator Hassan.

“IBM commends Senators Young, Hassan, and Cantwell for their continued leadership in introducing the resolution to recognize World Quantum Day. IBM is committed to applying quantum computing toward solving society’s most complex challenges. We call on Congress and the Administration to prioritize expanding quantum computing access, and research, fostering partnerships, and investing in public-private collaborations to sustain US leadership in this transformative technology, “ said Jay Gambetta VP of Quantum, IBM.
