Young: Maximum Financial Pressure Needed on Iranian Regime

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following the announcement today that the Trump administration is reimposing sanctions against Iran, U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement:

“Iran remains the world’s worst state sponsor of terrorism, and I support the Trump administration’s efforts to apply the maximum financial pressure possible until the Iranian regime changes course. Now we must focus on enforcement and additional steps to increase financial pressure on the regime.

“In our pursuit to block Iran’s longstanding efforts to acquire a nuclear weapons capability, we must never overlook Tehran’s support for terrorism, ballistic missile program, and persecution of the Iranian people. The threat Iran presents is comprehensive, and our response must be comprehensive as well. We respect the Iranian people and support their desire to finally have a government that focuses on the well-being of the Iranian people instead of threatening Iran’s neighbors, funding terrorist groups like Hezbollah, and propping up despotic murderers like Assad.”
